Sexual Harassment Prevention in the Workplace (1 CE hour)
Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment is a vital role for all employees and employers. This course will review sexual harassment in the workplace including various forms and manifestations of sexual harassment.
IPTA's Ethics Committee will review steps to take if one experiences or witnesses sexual harassment in the workplace including how to report harassment to workplace supervisors, anonymous call in lines, and state agencies. Whistleblower
protections will be reviewed for employees that report sexual harassment in the workplace. Case examples will be provided to apply course concepts on recognizing and reporting harassment.
This course meets the 1 hour Sexual Harassment Prevention training required by the State of Illinois.
This self study course is being offered for FREE to IPTA members/ CE Subscribers. Non IPTA members can pay $30 (non-refundable).
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Following completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe sexual harassment.
- Recognize different forms and manifestations of sexual harassment that constitute unlawful action.
- Demonstrate an understanding of what one should do if they experience or witness sexual harassment.
- Demonstrate an awareness of state and federal statutes concerning sexual harassment including remedies available to victims of sexual harassment.
- Discuss the responsibilities of employers in the prevention, investigation, and corrective measures of sexual harassment including whistleblower protections for individuals who report sexual harassment.
- Demonstrate the ability to develop a plan to report sexual harassment if it were to occur in the workplace to both employer and state agencies.

Demetra John PT, PhD received her physical therapy training from Northwestern University and her PhD in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
She is retired after working more than 30 years at UIC in multiple faculty and administrative roles. Demetra is a member of the IPTA Ethics Committee and the IPTF Pro Bono Committee. She has provided pro bono physical
therapy services to the uninsured for over 25 years.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
The Workplace Transparency Act (Public Act 101-0221), requires anyone who is employed in Illinois complete sexual harassment prevention training annually.
Additionally, employers with 1 or more employees working in Illinois (including short-term, part-time, and interns) must provide employees with annual sexual harassment training as required in the Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA).
For individuals with a professional license issued by the IDPR, with a CE requirement, must complete a 1 CE hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, per renewal cycle. Click here to learn more.
