The Public Relations Committee is formed to increase society's awarenss and understanding of physical therapy. Per our Strategic Plan, One of the objectives is to “promote the value of physical therapy first.” How the IPTA will achieve this is by forming a public relations work group to develop a plan to utilize a APTA resources to promote accessing physical therapy first in Illinois. on matters pertaining to the Chapter's financial needs, growth and stability based on periodic review of income, expenditures, and investments

Report to: The IPTA President and Board of Directors. Written reports to the Board of Directors should be submitted for the five meetings and the Assembly of Representatives, and as requested.

Committee Composition &Term: The committee is comprised of the committee chair and appointed members of the IPTA and one IPTA Chapter Staff liaison. Members are appointed by the President and approved by the Board. The work group will seek input from others as needed to complete the task.

Position Objective:  To increase society's awareness and understanding of physical therapy.

Specific Responsibilities:   Members of this committee are called upon to develop IPTA’s #physicaltherapyfirst campaign to promote the value of physical therapy, specifically to secure unrestricted direct access and the PT/PTAs role in health, wellness, and prevention. The committee will also develop a proposal to submit to the board of directors on how to utilize resources developed for the APTA’s #choosept campaign, which encourage patients to choose physical therapy (#ChoosePT) over opioids for the management and treatment of pain.  

Qualifications: Must be an IPTA PT, Retired PT, or Life PT, PTA, Retired PT or Life PTA member in good standing. Many of your assignments will be time sensitive; it is important to be organized and able to meet deadlines.  An advanced understanding of the physical therapy profession.  

Training and Support: The Chapter office provides annual volunteer orientation as well as ongoing administrative and clerical support for the committee.  Access to resource documents and information is available through www.IPTA.org.

Recourse: The IPTA places great value on the relationship between members, staff, and businesses working together to further our mission. The IPTA also recognizes that there may be occasions when conflicts arise. If such circumstance occurs, please consult with the IPTA President and Executive Director.

Evaluation: The IPTA BOD President will contact you before the completion of your term for feedback on your volunteer experience. This will be used to update this committee description, develop appropriate materials, and effectively orient future IPTA volunteers.
