The Illinois Physical Therapy Association elects volunteers to serve in Chapter governance. The IPTA has a committee dedicated to preparation and execution of the Chapter nomination and elections. 


Report toThe IPTA Board of Directors, providing written reports submitted for Board of Directors meetings, and annually at the Assembly of Representatives.

Composition &Term: The Nominating Committee shall be composed of three Physical Therapist, Retired Physical Therapist, or Life Physical Therapist members, who are in good standing and have consented to serve. Nomination to serve on the Nominating Committee may be submitted by district endorsement, individual endorsement, self-endorsement, nomination write-in, on the floor at the Assembly of Representatives, or by the current nominating committee. Members of the Committee shall serve a term of three years, commencing on January 1, with one member elected each year. The member with seniority shall serve as Chair of the committee. No more than two members of the same district may serve simultaneously on the Nominating Committee. Members of the Executive Committee of the IPTA may not serve as members of the Nominating Committee

Assist in developing a strong leadership board in the IPTA. By volunteering, you help to build the future of your profession.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collections nominations for Chapter elections.
  • Contact individuals who have been slated on the ballot, and any candidate who was not slated.
  • Collect biographical sketch of each candidate and consent to serve forms.
  • Prepares a slate of two nominees, if possible, from those consenting to serve for each Office, members of the Nominating and Ethics Committee, PTA Director, and Delegates at Large.
  • Submits the slate, ballot, candidate information, and instructions to Chapter members at least 30 days prior to the election date.
  • Obtains election results from online voting or mail ballots.

Time Commitment: Time commitments vary based on the Chapter election cycle. Nominating Committee members have deadlines they are responsible for meeting throughout the calendar year.  Serving as Nominating Committee member requires approximately 6-8 hours of work per month, although initially this may be greater, when circumstances arise.

Qualifications:  Only members of the Chapter who have been in good standing  who have been physical therapist, retired physical therapist, or life physical therapist members for at least two years immediately preceding their election, (IPTA Bylaws: Article XI Section 1) may serve . In order to be successful in these roles, knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of elected officers, awareness of member participation and potential participation, objective decision-making ability, and ability to elicit membership input is helpful. Many of your assignments will be time sensitive; it is important to be organized and able to meet deadlines.

Training and Support: The Chapter office provides annual volunteer orientation as well as ongoing administrative and clerical support. Current Nominating Committee members will assist in orientation in accordance to the Nominating Committee manual. Access to resource documents and information is available through www.IPTA.org. In addition, you will have opportunities to participate in APTA’s various training opportunities that are relevant to your role.

Recourse: The IPTA places great value on the relationship between members, staff, and businesses working together to further our mission. The IPTA also recognizes that there may be occasions when conflicts arise. If such circumstance occurs, please consult with the IPTA President and Executive Director.

Evaluation: The IPTA BOD President or the Nominating Committee Chair will contact you before the completion of your term for feedback on your volunteer experience. This will be used to update this job description, develop appropriate materials, and effectively orient future IPTA volunteers.
