March 2020 District Meetings + "Introduction to Dry Needling" CE

Mark Your Calendars for the upcoming District CEU Series on Dry Needling!

The IPTA is kicking off March with regional district meetings that include a 2 hour CE course on "Intro to Dry Needling".

First - Look forward to learning more about motions that will come forth at this year's Assembly of Representatives plus learn how you can get more involved in the IPTA.

Then stick around for a two hour CE course on "Intro to Dry Needling" .

Description:This 2-hour lecture and demonstration will introduce the student to the history of dry needling in the US going back to 1944. The first DN course in the US was conducted in 1997 by Drs. Jan Dommerholt and Robert Gerwin. Twenty-three years later, there are some 30+ post-graduate DN course providers in the US with a wide variety of types of DN and several controversies. The student will be introduced to DN issues at the state level. The presenter will discuss what DN entails in different settings. The lecture includes a brief overview of pertinent DN studies focussing on trigger points, canines, scar tissue, neurological conditions, including spasticity, range of motion, muscle inhibition, pain, and blood flow. What is known about the mechanisms of DN? What are known adverse events of DN? The lecture will conclude with a DN demonstration on one of the participants (with low back pain).

Objectives: At the completion of this program participants will be able to:

  • Name three highlights of the development of DN in the US
  • List five different applications of DN
  • Cite three scientific studies in support of DN
  • List three possible effects of DN
  • Name the most serious possible adverse events of DN

Light food and beverage will be provided.
