Your 2016-2017 SSIG Executive Committee

PRESIDENT

MEET:

JAMES BABANA, SPT

1st year student at Northwestern University

A little bit about James:

"I was married to my beautiful wife on June 15, 2013 and we are currently residing in Morton Grove, IL. I have been a practicing licensed massage therapist since April of 2008 and am certified with the NCBTMB and am licensed in Illinois. My undergraduate education was at the University of Illinois at Chicago to complete a bachelor's of science in kinesiology focusing on exercise science and health promotion. Currently, my hobbies are video gaming, exercising, meditating, and making homemade donuts. My goals are to open up an assisted living/SNF for people in the Assyrian community that will allow them to better socialize and stay close to people of similar backgrounds. The challenge for the aging population in my community is that when they are unable to live independently, they often are placed in facilities that separate them from surroundings they are familiar with. Adapting to new environments when ill is difficult, complicating the residents' progress toward maintaining and/or regaining their health. "

VICE PRESIDENT

MEET:

GINA MARTORANA, SPT

2nd year student at Midwestern University

A little bit about Gina:

"When I am not in school or studying, I enjoy working out, hiking, bicycling, and spending time with friends. I also love reading books when I get the chance. In my free time, I enjoy baking and cooking. I am also a passionate skier and tennis player when time allows me to partake in them. "

SECRETARY/ TREASURER

MEET:

BRITTANY SIKORA, SPT

1st year student at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science

A little bit about Brittany:

"In my free time, I enjoy cooking and watching Netflix of course. I also enjoy working out, hiking, and traveling, as well as spending time with family and friends. I have always had an interest in event planning, and am looking forward to planning Rosalind Franklin University's Marquette challenge events for the next school year as well as my wedding which is coming up in 2017. "

SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR

MEET:

KATHRYN BUDZ, SPT

1st year student at Rosalind Franklin University

A little bit about Kathryn:

"I am a first year student at Rosalind Franklin University. I became interested in physical therapy after a sports injury in college while playing basketball and have been excited to learn as much as I can about PT ever since! Some of my hobbies include running, playing basketball, reading, and spending time with family/friends. I am also a triplet and love working with the geriatric population. "

SPTA DIRECTOR

MEET:

JULIE JANICEK, SPTA

1st year student at Morton College

A little bit about Julie:

"I decided to become a Physical Therapist Assistant because I want to improve the quality of life of others. I want to make a positive difference in people‚Äôs lives. I became an elementary teacher and a group fitness instructor, years ago, for the same reason. While teaching fitness classes, I encountered many people with physical limitations and I knew I had to become a Physical Therapist Assistant so I could truly help people live healthier lives. "
