Members,

As we work to address the evolving situations we find ourselves in, please know that the IPTA is continuing to advocate on our behalf and address issues relating to payment and the use of telehealth, license renewal requirements, and unique situations our students are finding themselves in relating to virtual classes, clinical education and the exam.

We also know that you are being inundated with emails from other organizations assuring you that they are also looking out for you. In an effort to minimize communications, the IPTA will be utilizing our IPTA.org home page and this link to provide updates: www.ipta.org/page/coronavirus2020 which includes a summary of links to external resources as well as information specific to Illinois.

We will also not be repeating information that is being sent to you from APTA and encourage you to monitor their website for new information and recommendations as they are posted.

We will continue to release our monthly communications, Keeping You Connected (KYC) and Your Advocate, and try to minimize other e-communications as much as possible. We are also in the process of adding additional virtual educational offerings and announcements about those will be found in the KYC on the first Tuesday of every month. Right now, we are accepting registrations for our April program that will fulfill the Ethics requirement. More information can be found here and registration for the May and June sessions is now open as well. All of these programs count as traditional, live CE for license renewal in Illinois. Pre-recorded sessions found in our virtual library are considered self study and can be accessed here.

Spotlight on Research programming also counts as traditional live CE. Upcoming programming can be found here and registration is open for our May, June, and July sessions.

The recorded version of our Sexual Harassment Prevention training is available online and an additional live virtual presentation will be offered later this summer.

As a small staff association, we have made small changes regarding staffing the office but, as we traditionally communicate with members and the public through email and phone, we don't anticipate these changes will impact our ability to support you. We will continue to communicate with members, other stakeholders, state leaders and agencies, and the public via electronic means and virtual meetings.

I believe that the next couple months will be challenging. Businesses will struggle and communities will struggle. Health care will evolve to meet the needs of those we care for. For the IPTA, we will take the necessary steps to care for our members and staff.

As a health care profession, this is our time to lead, work hard, and help others to keep society strong and healthy.

Mike Riley, PT, IPTA President

EXPANSION OF TELEHEALTH SERVICES: PAYMENT BY INSURERS

The APTA has provided additional information to help providers interpret the Medicare changes: http://www.apta.org/PTinMotion/News/2020/03/18/E-VisitFAQs/

03.19.20: All major insurers are working to address the need to provide services via telehealth. At this time, CIGNA, Aetna - CVS Health, Health Alliance, Humana, United, and Quartz have all committed to paying for telehealth delivery but we have no additional information at this time. We anticipate the insurers will begin issuing provider notices with billing instructions soon. In the interim, providers should continue to verify benefits and ask for specific instructions on how to bill telehealth services.

LICENSE & LICENSE RENEWAL

03.19.20: IDFPR has begun to issue notices addressing extensions for licenses set to expire in the next two months as well as guidance relating to virtual education in lieu of traditional classroom. More information as it relates to physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students will be provided as it becomes available.
