2019 IPTF Research Grant Recipients Announced & New Consumer Brochures Coming Soon!

By: Sarah Jensen, PT, MPT, DSc, COMT, IPTF President, IPTA Vice President

The Illinois Physical Therapy Foundation’s (IPTF) mission is to support physical therapists’ unique position as human movement experts.  The goal is to support and promote research projects, raise awareness with the public about physical therapy and the benefits of physical therapy, and develop the future through student scholarships.

The IPTF is very happy to announce the research grant recipients for 2019.  Congratulations to Christian Evans, PT, PhD, professor at Midwestern University and Laura Rice, PT, MPT, PhD, ATP, professor at the University of Illinois.  Dr. Evan’s research will be looking at ‘Patterns and Sources for Contamination and Effectiveness of Cleaning in an Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic’.  Dr. Rice will be researching ‘Prediction of Falls Using Clinical Balance Measures Among Non-Ambulatory Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury: A Prospective Cohort Study’.  Each will be awarded $1,000 to fund their respective projects.  Thank you to all the applicants for your dedication to advancing the physical therapy profession.  We recognize the significant time commitment this requires, and we look forward to seeing the results of your hard work.  Many thanks to all who donated on the IPTF’s Day of Giving.  The donations raised that day were used to fund these research grants.

Donations from the Day of Giving are also being used to continue to develop consumer brochures that are available as a member benefit to all IPTA members for consumer use.  These brochures cover a wide array of topics from various neuro-orthopedic topics to vestibular conditions to balance and fall prevention to pediatrics.

Our newest brochure will be our holiday gift to you and will be available later in December.  This brochure will discuss vertigo and will allow our members to educate their patients and the public on this often misunderstood condition that physical therapy can make a significant impact on. It will also be available in Spanish too. Best of all, they are free to members! Click here to view the current collection of consumer brochures.

Wishing you all a very happy holiday season!
