Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Required for License Renewal in 2020

This week the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation released instructions relating to the new 1 hour of CE required for all licensees, including physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.

PTs renewing their license by September 30, 2020 will have to comply with this requirement and make sure that 1 of the 40 required CE hours includes sexual harassment prevention  training, specifically:

  • What is sexual harassment, including its forms and types;
  • What should one do if one experiences or witnesses unwelcome sexual contact;
  • Reporting sexual harassment within one's place of employment and to outside entities, such as the Illinois Department of Human Rights; and
  • Whistleblower protections.

For PTAs, 1 of the 20 required CE hours for license renewal should include this training prior to September 30, 2021.

The course may be presented in a classroom setting, a webinar or online and must be given by an approved CE sponsor.

You can read their FAQs as well as access the rules and regulations for this requirement here

Stay tuned: In 2020, the IPTA will have a virtual program to help our members meet this new licensure requirement.
