Barriers to Direct Access in Illinois Hospitals Addressed

While direct access was signed into law over a year ago, hospital systems have struggled to implement it, awaiting guidance from the Illinois Health and Hospital Association and the Illinois Department of Public Health.  In late August, the IPTA was informed that it is likely that communications outlining ways for implementation to take place will be released later this month.  While details were not provided, it does appear that further legislation action will not be required and hospital systems should be able to internally amend bylaws and policies to provide for direct access, if their individual Boards choose to.  More information will be released as it becomes available.
