SB 653 Passes out of Senate

After passing the Senate floor unanimously, SB 653 as amended (House Amendment 001) has passed both chambers and is now on its way to the Governor's office.

This law is intended to maintain a system that provides fairness and equity for all stakeholders: consumers, health care providers, and insurers.

We extend our thanks to all those who contributed time and resources to this effort.

Other General Assembly Actions

Access to Education: The House and Senate both passed the RISE Act, which will help ensure equitable access to education and improve retention, benefiting more than 3,000 African American, undocumented, and transgender students making them eligible to apply for financial aid so they can attend any college or university in Illinois.

“All students should have equitable access to financial aid regardless of race, socioeconomic background, immigration status or gender identity,” said Sen. Omar Aquino (D-Chicago), chief Senate sponsor of the RISE Act. “I’m proud to support the effort to make Illinois a welcoming state for all.”

Recreational Marijuana: The bill to legalize recreational marijuana in Illinois will also allow those with low-level marijuana convictions to have their records expunged. Gov. J.B. Pritzker has said he will sign the proposal that will make Illinois the 11th state, along with the District of Columbia, to permit recreational marijuana use.  With increased access to marijuana, PTs and PTAs need to know how patients can be affected.  read more from APTA
