#CHOOSEPT MESSAGE HEARD AT CHICAGO’S BIKE THE DRIVE

With over 20,000 participants and attendees, Chicago’s Bike the Drive (May 26th) provided us with the opportunity to spread the word on how physical therapy is a non-addictive alternative to opioids.

Board members Brad Tracy, PT (Northern District Chair) and Mary Jones, PT (East Central District Chair), along with a group of members including students from Northwestern and Governors State spent the morning at the IPTA tent where they had the opportunity to talk with attendees about the value of PT, particularly in the fight against opioids.

“When it comes to using addictive medications, parents are very concerned about their children and how opioids can be gateway drugs to other issues,” noted Mary Jones.  Physicians and nurses also stopped by to learn more about how physical therapy can help manage pain.

The booth also provided an opportunity to promote direct access to physical therapy.

Participating in Chicago’s Bike the Drive is one of the new ways that districts are working to help promote physical therapy in our communities.

Thanks to Brad and Mary and all of the volunteers that participated: Dave Cobb, SPT; Rachel Cote, PT; Katherine Kotche, SPT; Rachael Maguire, SPT; Alison Marks, SPT; Hector Martinez, PTA; Steffen O’Brien, SPT; Rosalyn Park, SPT.
