MEET A MEMBER: Becky Lesko, PT
Acting North Central District Chair

The IPTA is proud of members who are working hard towards advancing the physical therapy profession.

Among the many duties of the District’s Vice Chair position, one in which is to assume the duties of the chair in lieu of an absence.

Becky Lesko, PT has graciously stepped up to fulfill the Chair position of the North Central after the sudden passing of one of IPTA’s beloved board members, Melinda Hagaman, PT, DPT.

We asked Becky, "What inspired you to become a physical therapist?”

Lesko: My mom is a nurse, and my dad is a biology teacher so I always had an interest in science and knew I wanted to go into the medical field from a very early age. I loved anatomy and physiology - it was so fascinating to me how the body worked because of its complexity. When I was in middle school and high school, I had a few sport injuries that prompted me to go to physical therapy. After that experience, I knew I wanted to be a physical therapist! I chose neurological physical therapy after my first clinical rotation because it was so challenging and rewarding. I enjoy thinking through treatments for each unique patient, but also because it allows me to support and encourage my patients who are often struggling through some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Becky, the floor is yours.  If you had the attention of all North Central District members, what message would you like to convey?

Lesko: Enjoy the profession you have chosen! You have an incredible opportunity to be a part of people's lives. We have more time with our patients than most other medical professionals so we need to take advantage of that. Listen to their stories; inspire them to do more; encourage them when times are tough; make them laugh when they are down. Don't be content with good enough. Be a physical therapist to the best of your ability, applying evidence based practice with skill and going the extra mile to make every session the best it can be for that specific patient.
