In Memoriam: Melinda C. Hagaman, PT, DPT

June 15, 2018

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the sudden passing of Melinda C. Hagaman, PT, DPT. Melinda served on IPTA’s Board of Directors as Chair of the North Central District from 2015-2018 and a member of the APTA since 2009.

Melinda was a resident of Rockford, IL and joined OSF in August of 2012 after completing her Master's in Physical Therapy at NIU. During her first year of practice, she both completed a transitional DPT and did some adjunct teaching at NIU.  She was principally an outpatient orthopedic therapist, with additional training in lymphedema and vestibular care.  She served often as a clinical instructor for students, with both passion and humor.  In April 2017, she was promoted to Outpatient Supervisor, with 50% supervisory duties and 50% patient care time.  She supervised a staff of 24 people and could be relied on for information, answers, empathy, and support.  She is dearly missed by her work family.

Not only was Melinda committed to the work, she was also committed to the IPTA.  Her involvement started early.  As an early career, Melinda served as an Assembly Representative for her district in 2013, then dedicated more of her time to serving the IPTA when appointed to Chair of the North Central district.  Her contributions to the association and the profession also included serving as a member of our CE audit team and moving our legislative agenda foward by regularly donating to our PAC and communicating with her state elected representatives.

Melinda’s whole-hearted personality and passion for the physical therapy profession will be sorely missed and the IPTA extends our deep condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Melinda's family and many friends. We share in your loss.

Melinda was such a positive person who was always willing to assist the profession when needed. One of my last encounters with Melinda was during a May 2018 North Central District meeting at Northern Illinois University. During the meeting she truly inspired our graduating NIU DPT student to remain committed to the profession through membership in the IPTA. Melinda will be deeply missed. My prayers and thoughts are with her family and friends.

Melinda had a positive attitude and was always willing to help/volunteer where needed. One example that comes to mind was during a past REVITALIZE Expo I had my hands full (literally) with raffle prizes and she came up to me in her calm demeanor and asked how she could help. With Melinda's help things went smoothly and turned a potentially stressful situation into so much fun for all! In the midst of the busy excitement (while reading off raffle winners names and distributing prizes) I thanked her for offering to assist...she simply smiled and said 'no big deal, happy to help...this is fun!' May you rest in peace Melinda- God Bless!

She was so much fun to be around. I'm going to miss her at meetings, conferences, lunches. I'm just really going to miss her.
Melinda was always so kind and such a pleasure to work with! She will be greatly missed.
