MEET A MEMBER: Margaret Danilovich PT, DPT, PhD, GCS
IPTA Nominating Committee Chair

The IPTA is proud of our fascinating and influential members who are working hard towards advancing the physical therapy profession.

IPTA’s Nominating Committee works all year round to foster activities that maintain and promote a pool of informed nominees to serve in Chapter leadership.

Current Chair of the Nominating Committee is IPTA member Margaret Danilovich PT, DPT, PhD, GCS.

Let’s learn a little bit more about Margaret.

We asked Margaret, what inspired you to become a PT?

Danilovich: With one twist and fall to the ground, my life was forever changed. After incurring a dislocated patella running track in high school, I went to Athletico River Grove and spent time rehabbing my knee. While I learned how to strengthen my quadriceps, more importantly, I learned of a profession that incorporated my interests in helping others, movement, and health. During college, I worked in a physical therapy clinic in a retirement home and there, my love of working with older adults was born! I’ve spent my entire career in geriatrics and currently am on faculty at Northwestern University where I teach geriatric physical therapy and research exercise interventions for older adults with frailty.

As chair, this is your third year serving on the Chapter Nominating Committee. What have you found most rewarding about serving on the Nominating Committee?

Danilovich: One of the most rewarding aspects of serving on the Nominating Committee is the ability to shape the future of our professional organization by assembling willing and qualified members who want to serve IPTA. Further, I’ve enjoyed talking with IPTA members about the various IPTA leadership roles and helping people explore the positions that might best use their talents.

Margaret, If you had the attention of all the Members, what message would you like to convey?

Danilovich: There is a place for you to volunteer within IPTA and the benefits of volunteering are tremendous! Service to the profession is a fantastic way to network with others, influence the future of physical therapy in Illinois, and be a part of a great community of people who are passionate about physical therapy! There are many ways to be involved in IPTA at various stages of your career and with varying levels of time commitment. Don’t doubt your ability to lead and consider serving within IPTA!
