Happy New Year! A Message from Your IPTA President

As I start the last year as my first term as President of the IPTA my appreciation for what it takes to support our membership continues to grow.  We are truly blessed to have so many members that will volunteer their time to take the leadership roles that are necessary to support our mission.

This year will require monumental efforts by all of our members if we want to achieve the goals of our #ChoosePT-First Campaign. This campaign to promote physical therapy as a non-addictive alternative for the management of pain over addictive opioids will hopefully enable us to remove some of the restrictions that impede access to physical therapy, provide fair co-pays under insurance and allow therapists to perform the full extent of their education and training. Our group will once again return to Springfield on the 7th of February to promote this message and educate our legislators. Visits both in Springfield and in your local legislative offices to promote our efforts will be necessary. Please contact the IPTA office if you will be able to attend.

Information is available for you to share with your senators and representatives on how greater access to therapy may help their constituents avoid addictive medications if given the chance. Every legislator needs to hear from us so they understand the access issues that their constituents have to face.

- Mike Riley, PT
IPTA President (2016 - 2021)
Member since 1973
