MEET A MEMBER : Heidi Tippner, PT IPTA Nominating Committee Chair

The IPTA is proud of our fascinating and influential members who are working hard towards advancing the physical therapy profession.

The deadline to vote in this year's Chapter Elections is approaching! IPTA’s Nominating Committee works all year round to foster activities that maintain and promote a pool of informed nominees to serve in chapter leadership.

Current chair of the Nominating Committee is IPTA member Heidi Tippner, PT.

Let’s learn a little bit more about Heidi.

What inspired you to become a physical therapist?

Tippner: “From childhood, I always wanted to work in healthcare.  I thought I wanted to be a doctor or a nurse.  When I was in seventh grade, my aunt had a bad back.  I would massage her back in an effort to decrease her pain.  One day, she told me that I should be a Physical Therapist.  I hadn't heard of PT before, so I did some research.  I also shadowed my local hospital Physical Therapist.  I was hooked.  I was fascinated by how PT's could decrease pain and help people move better.  I also met a patient who had been crushed by a semi trailer.  He told me about how PT had helped him.  From then on, I knew I wanted to be a PT.”

You were first elected to the Nominating Committee back in 2015.

Having served on the committee for three years now, what have you found most rewarding?

Tippner: “I have really enjoyed meeting and talking with new people and sharing information about the IPTA.  I have also enjoyed being able to help the IPTA and my fellow PTs.  I am very thankful for all of the things the IPTA does to promote and protect PT in Illinois.  I am happy to serve the IPTA in any way that I can."

If you had the attention of all the Members what message would you like to convey?

Tippner: “ Each one of us needs to do our part.  As individuals, we are weak, but together we are strong.  We must all do our part to support the IPTA and APTA.  It is through this teamwork that we can protect our practice and further the profession.”
