My Lyft driver Saturday night asked me, "What’s one thing you learned at your conference this weekend?" I thought about that question for a bit. At the time, I was stumped. Later that night, I realized what I had learned wasn't a tangible piece of information, but a realization of a feeling. The feeling, that I was accepted in the #PTFam community. The outpouring of love when other students found out I was the only person from my program at this and previous conferences. The mutual respect, that we're all in this together (cue High School Musical soundtrack in my head).

It's crazy to think, that within the past year, so many opportunities have opened because I attended NSC in Miami. I was a part of the 2017 NSC Project Committee to help plan this conference. I became the 2017-2018 IPTA Student SIG Vice President. I worked with the APTA to present 3 member value talks to the PT classes within my program. I am a presence on Twitter - so much so, that when I re-introduced myself to Dr. Dunn, she said "Oh, yes, from Twitter!". Because of NSC, I have been thriving in PT school, not merely surviving.

From landing in Portland with welcoming soft jazz in the airport to learning sign language on my way to the convention center because the LIFT driver was completely deaf, I quickly grasped that Portland was full of the perspective that was advertised. Upon registration, I was greeted by a number of the students, clinicians, and professors from all over the country who brought NSC in Portland to life.

PT Pub Night was a great end to the first night. It was a perfect time to meet a large group of motivated and light-hearted students. I highly recommend everybody attending Pub Night next year!

Bouncing from room to room on Friday & Saturday, I heard a repeated theme. When the researchers, entrepreneurs, and even an Olympic athlete described their experience with physical therapy they spoke of unique opportunities that either advanced the profession, advanced their career and others around them, or elevated their own athleticism to Olympian level. Although each person provided different opportunities through varying perspectives, each story was rooted in physical therapy.

A meeting of passion and action. NSC2017 has provided me with a blend perspective and opportunity. I hope more students will be encouraged to join in the fun next year.
