#THIRDTHURSDAY: Balance in all things...

We invite you to join us from 5:30 - 8 pm on Thursday, September 20th as Sarah J. Haag, PT, DPT, Women's Health Certified Specialist shares her knowledge and expertise on "Balance in all things... ".

Balance can be hard…  no matter what definition you use!

Helping people improve their balance to prevent falls is a huge part of what physical therapy has to offer.  Balance is something most of us will check with our patients and is also something we measure frequently with outcome measures.  But which outcome measures should we use and are we measuring what we think we’re measuring?

Finding a healthy work-life balance can also be a challenge for people who have chosen the field of physical therapy.  There are blogs and articles and message boards filled with terms like ‘burnout’ and ‘empathy fatigue’.  While we may all enter the field of physical therapy for different reasons, there is a significant investment necessary to finally because a licensed healthcare provider.  What are some thoughts and ideas on how to avoid burn out and find that balance?

Finally, what is enough balance?  There are times when our patients want to go beyond the basics, and maybe even engage in activities we, as medical professionals, think they should not pursue.  What exactly is ‘good enough’ balance for that person in front of you? We will discuss finding balance in what your professional scope is, what your patients would like to achieve, and what third-party payers may be willing to pay for.

What to expect:

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify one validated outcome measure for balance that is appropriate for their practice setting.
  • Describe one activity they would find helpful in achieving a better work-life balance.
  • Differentiate between scope of physical therapy practice and ‘medical necessity’.
