"Nature Therapy: Principles and Applications"

Earn 1 FREE hour of CE!

Join us for this month's Spotlight on Research Virtual Learning course as Allison Mitch, PT, DPT, MS presents her research on "Nature Therapy: Principles and Applications."

There is a burgeoning market of nature therapy wellness offerings. General media and scientific literature have explored the therapeutic use of nature, from forest therapy, to green exercise, and nature prescriptions from medical doctors. What is nature therapy? What is the evidence? And can we, as physical therapists, utilize nature as a wellness tool for our professional practice?

Upon completion of this virtual learning webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Define nature, nature therapy, and green exercise
  • Discuss current theories exploring why nature improves wellbeing
  • Review the science of nature therapy
  • Provide information on organizations and resources, at the national and local level, that offer services related to nature therapy
  • Examine how physical therapists can apply this knowledge and incorporate nature into their professional practice

Dr. Allison Mitch, PT, DPT, MS is a physical therapist (DPT), having graduated from Georgia State University (GSU; Atlanta, Georgia) in 2012, and trained yoga instructor (RYT 500). She worked at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta and currently teaches part time via online courses at GSU, facilitates women’s’ meditation circles, leads the Naperville Family Nature club, and assists the greater Chicagoland Free Forest School. Allison plans to offer Mindful Movement (fitness/wellness services) later this year. All of her current and near-future professional endeavors incorporate aspects of nature for wellbeing. Allison’s interests outside of physical therapy and yoga include mothering her 3 young children, reading, writing, exercise, and being outdoors as much as possible. More information about Allison and her offerings can be found at

You are encouraged to send questions and comments prior to the event using the IPTA Research Question Box and the IPTA Research Forum. Please note that you must be logged into the site as an IPTA member to submit your questions.
