Yoga for the Special Child – Basic 1

Course Description: This week long training provides the essential tools for teaching yoga to children who have a variety of special needs. Through hands on instruction and live demo classes, participants will be guided to facilitate various yoga poses and exercises designed for each stage of the child's development. No prior yoga experience is necessary..

Course Objectives:

Course participants upon completion will be able to:

 

Learn to evaluate infants and children up to age 12 (ages 12+ covered in Basic 2) and prepare an optimum practice environment. Participants will be able to lead complete yoga classes for a wide range of needs. These exercises include mantra (sound), pranayama (breathing exercises), asana (yoga poses) and yoga nidra (guided relaxation). Participants will also be able to explain the benefits of these practices to parents, therapists and medical professionals.
