August 16 was a great day when Gov. Rauner signed direct access to physical therapists into law.  One reason our direct access legislation was so successful this time around is because physical therapy has been effective in reducing pain without the use of opioids.  Legislators jumped at the chance to show the citizens of Illinois they want to help combat the opioid crisis by supporting our bill.

Mary Jones, East Central District Chair, is challenging all members to attend their district meetings to learn about the IPTA and IPT-PACs legislative successes as well as the legislative agenda for 2019, as presented by IPTA staff member Linda Griffith. However winning direct access was an expensive battle.  The IPTA and IPT-PAC have spent over $155,000 the last 12 months.

The IPT-PAC 4th Annual Weeks of Giving (WOG) is October 7 - 21 with a goal of $40,000.  Anyone who donates to the WOG while attending their district meeting will be entered to win a free registration to an 8 hour CE course about pain management.  Talk about a win-win situation:  supporting the IPT-PAC AND learning about pain management through physical therapy.  See flier for complete course details.  Direct access helps patients combat pain, please help the IPT-PAC continue to help patients and the physical therapy profession.

See you at your district meeting.  The challenge is on!
Linda Griffith, IPTA Operations & Special Programs Manager

Introduce a non-member to the IPTA during National Physical Therapy Month!

For every non-member you bring to your October District meeting, you’ll receive one entry into the Membership Matters lottery!

For each of your guest(s) who become an IPTA PT, PTA or student member by November 1st, 2018, you’ll earn an additional 5 entries!

The grand prize drawing will take place at the November 15th #THIRDTHURSDAY where one name will be picked to receive FREE REGISTRATION FOR REVITALIZE 2019.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Invite a non-member guest (or two or ten!) to your district meeting.
  2. Sign in and have your guest(s) sign in noting you are their host.
  3. The sign-in sheets will be sent to the Chapter office who will track your entries. If the Chapter receives notification from the APTA that your guest(s) have joined by November 1, 2018, we will add your additional 5 entries per new member!
  4. Encourage your guest to consider membership.
  5. Attend or tune in virtually to the November 15th #THIRDTHURSDAY to see the live drawing.

Good luck!

National Physical Therapy Month is approaching and the IPTA is encouraging members to get involved and participate!

National Physical Therapy Month (NPTM) is celebrated each October to recognize the impact that physical therapists and physical therapist assistants make in supporting the nation's healthcare community, helping organizations achieve positive patient outcomes, as well as encouraging citizens to live healthy and active lifestyles.

Why Get Involved?

Getting together with people with similar interests, who live in the same area, and face similar challenges is what we are all about – and from those great networking and learning opportunities come great conversations, fun activities, new friends, and you may even learn something new. One of the greatest benefits of the IPTA is the opportunity to get involved, participate, and learn updates on your professional association and profession within your district!

The IPTA is proud to be a 2018 Silver Sponsor & Ambassador for Global PT Day of Service (October 13, 2018). “PTDOS” is a day of service that recognizes that as physical therapy professionals we have the ability to positively impact change.
