Vestibular Study Group Event

Refine the Student’s Clinical Reasoning of the Vestibular Patient

When a patient reports a loss of balance and dizziness, can you confidently differentiate between a musculoskeletal impairment and a vestibular impairment? If you determine it is a vestibular impairment, can you differentiate between a central or peripheral issue?

On July 21st, the The Illinois Physical Therapy Association (IPTA) Student Special Interest Group (SSIG) & EvidenceCEU host a Vestibular Study Group Event to fine-tune students’ ability to screen, differentially diagnose, classify, and provide interventions for patients with BPPV and Unilateral Hypofunction.

Objectives: To improve clinical proficiency with patients with Vestibular Dysfunction in the Clinical Internship Setting

  • Vestibular Examination
    • Taking a subjective history (key questions to ask)
    • What tests and measures choose in order to differentially diagnosis musculoskeletal vs vestibular impairment
  • Classification of Vestibular Patients (Central, Peripheral, and Positional)
  • Vestibular Rehab Principles
    • Appropriate interventions with associated classification

This study group is intended for students who have completed prior coursework in vestibular rehabilitation. This course is more so to refine prior understanding of established coursework.
