Sandra J. Levi, PT, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. She completed her entry-level physical therapy education at McGill University. She received a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, where her studies focused on health professions education, and a Ph.D. in human development and social policy from Northwestern University. She is the founder, and co-director since 1996, of a pro bono physical therapy clinic located in an inner-city Chicago neighborhood. She has published her research on post-acute hospital rehabilitation following hip fracture and on physical therapists’ conceptualizations of persons with disabilities, and has presented in national, state, and local venues on evidence-based physical therapy practice and physical therapy for older adults. Dr. Levi serves on the Geriatrics, Education, Research, and Health Policy and Administration Sections of the American Physical Therapy Association. Dr. Levi has served in many leadership capacities. Dr. Levi was honored with the Volunteers in Action Award for Exceptional Dedication to the Needs of the Community by the Section on Geriatrics of the APTA and the Outstanding Physical Therapist Award by the Illinois Physical Therapy Association for exemplary service at the national level.
