Holistic Riding Equestrian Therapy

Holistic Riding Equestrian Therapy (HRET) is currently looking for PTs/PTAs and OTs to join their team and help design a program curriculum best suited for horse riders.

HRET is a non profit 501 (c) 3 organization located in Lemont, IL and is looking to expand their therapeutic riding program. HRET is committed to improving the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social aspects in the lives of children and adults with special needs, and veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

HRET offers a variety of skill appropriate classes meeting the needs of preschoolers on our ponies to independent riders on our program safe horses.

This position is a unique opportunity for any individual to diversify their skills and knowledge. Riders range in ages, diagnoses and abilities. Many of our riders have physical, cognitive and emotional challenges.

Therapists will find this internship extremely rewarding and an opportunity to be creative in their communication and teaching styles.  The position requires no prior horse handling or riding experience but patience and a compassionate serving heart for those with special needs. Duties include, but are not limited to, creating activities and therapies, assisting clients, and assisting our Farm Activity Instructor during classes.  Your expertise and experience will be incorporated into our teaching and communication methods.  The position initially is part-time, both paid and volunteer positions available in the mornings and evenings. There may also be an opportunity to accompany our athletes to the Fall Special Olympics competition in Rockford.

HRET will work with licensed professionals to develop exercises, games and activities for our riders both on horseback and on the ground. We are excited about incorporating your expertise with our program, integrating physical, emotional, cognitive, and social growth opportunities for every rider.
