MEET A MEMBER(s): Your Incoming District Chairs!

The IPTA is proud of our fascinating and influential members who are working hard towards advancing the physical therapy profession.

On January 1st, 2018, the IPTA welcomes the transition of newly elected incoming district leadership. Joining the IPTA Board of Directors as chairs for the district are Patrick Withrow, PT (Eastern) and Brenda Pratt, PT (Western).

We asked Patrick and Brenda the following question: “If you have the attention of all the members in your district, what message would you like to convey?

Patrick Withrow, PT, Eastern District: My message would be threefold:

  • Membership is powerful.  There is a great deal of strength in numbers, and the only way our profession can fulfill its vision of revitalizing society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience is by presenting a unified message.  When the majority of PTs and PTAs in Illinois are non-members, that message is not effective.  I strongly encourage each and every member to call on a colleague to become a member.  Talk to them about why you are a member and why you think they should become a member.
  • Become engaged.  I challenge you to take your membership to the next level.  This could mean simply opening the next email you receive from the IPTA to learn more about our efforts to achieve direct access, fair co-pays, protection of patient choice, among others.  It could also mean attending the next District meeting or #THIRDTHURSDAY event.  It could even mean running for a position, such as Assembly Representative, or joining a committee or task force.
  • Spread the word!  There are many avenues today to spread our message via social media.  If you are on Twitter, check out #ChoosePT, follow @IPTAconnect and @IPTA_SSIG, or re-tweet information sent out by the IPTA and APTA.  If you are on Facebook, make sure you "Like" the IPTA page and some of their posts.  Social media is a great way to reach our communities, colleagues, patients, and elected officials.

I am looking forward to representing the Eastern District over the next two years.  Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or if there is anything I can help with.  You can also follow me on Twitter @pwithrow.

Brenda Pratt, PT, Western District: As members of the Western District of the IPTA, I hope we continue to develop our individual and collective voice to advance our physical therapy profession with consumers, legislators, insurance providers, and with our national and chapter professional organizations. Good communication is essential to maintaining strong working relationships at all levels of our professional organizations. I am honored to be elected by the district membership and look forward to working with you all in the coming years.

Please join us in welcoming these incoming leaders.
