Course Description: 

This course will provide the physical therapist and physical therapist assistant with a review of knee and shoulder anatomy, biomechanics, examination, injury risk factors, injury prevention, interventions and the latest pertinent research on orthopedic injuries to the knee and shoulder. Additionally, Todd A. Schubkegel MD, Kirsten Oliversen MD, Jonathan N. Watson MD, and Paul J. Danielsky MD, will discuss knee and shoulder topics as they relate to the physical therapist/physical therapist assistant.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify common anatomic and biomechanical factors related to knee and shoulder injuries.
  • Discuss the various causes of knee and shoulder injuries.
  • Design an appropriate examination for a patient with a knee or shoulder injury.
  • Utilize information related to the pathology of the condition, the principles of intervention, the examination results, and available literature to develop an appropriate, comprehensive intervention plan for a patient with a knee or shoulder injury.
  • Develop an effective ACL injury prevention program.
