Join us for this month's Spotlight on Research Virtual Learning course as Mickey Shah PT, D.Sc. OCS, FAAOMPT, Cert.MDT, CSCS, Certified Vestibular Rehabilitation Specialist presents his research on "Overview of Cervicogenic Dizziness"

 

This presentation will provide an overview of Cervicogenic Dizziness (CGD). Participants will be introduced to the proposed mechanisms of CGD, including Posterior Cervical Sympathetic Syndrome, Vertebrobasilar Insufficieny, and altered proprioception signals. Special detail on the key examination features in CGD will be discussed in order to allow the participant to differentiate from other causes of vertigo. Management strategies specific to CGD will be presented.

 

Upon completion of this virtual learning webinar, participates will be able to:

  • Describe cervical anatomy and anatomical structures involved with CGD;
  • Discuss the evidence related to etiology, diagnosis and management of CGD;
  • Describe mechanisms of postural control with specific emphasis to the cervical spine;
  • Recognize patients that dizziness but are not appropriate for treatment that require specialist referral or Emergency Care;
  • Differentiate CGD from other vestibular causes, including common vascular causes of central vestibular disorders;
  • Describe key test and measures relevant to CGD and interpret findings;
  • Develop an appropriate patient-specific cervical-vestibular rehabilitation program.



ABOUT THE RESEARCHER(s):

Mickey Shah PT, D.Sc. OCS, FAAOMPT, Cert.MDT, CSCS, Certified Vestibular Rehabilitation Specialist  (APTA-EMORY Competency Course), University Lecturer is a licensed physical therapist with over 14 years of clinical experience. He has a strong background in clinical neurology and vestibular conditions. He received his MSPT from D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York before completing his D.Sc. from the University of Maryland with a specialization in neurological movement disorders. Dr. Shah completed the vestibular rehabilitation competency course at Emory University in 2010. In addition Dr. Shah has served as adjunct clinical faculty at Governors State University, Fox College, and a teaching assistant at Northwestern University. He remains active in private practice evaluating and treating patients vestibular and spinal disorders.
