Join us for this month's Spotlight on Research Virtual Learning course as Deborah (Debbie) Anderson, PT, EdD, PCS presents her research on "The Four Ps from the 2016 IV Step Conference: Recommendations for Pediatric Physical Therapy Practice"
This session will review and examine the key highlights of the 2016 IV STEP Conference. Relevance of the four Ps (prevention, prediction, plasticity, and participation) to pediatric physical therapy practice and recommendations for future practice will be discussed.
Upon completion of this virtual learning webinar, participates will be able to:
- Briefly review the history of the STEP conferences;
- Identify the objectives of the IV STEP conference;
- Define the Four P’s: Prevention, Prediction, Plasticity, and Participation;
- Examine the potential role of movement system diagnosis in pediatric PT;
- Identify current and new aspects of prevention that influence the practice of pediatric PT;
- Examine how clinical research can help uncover knowledge about critical periods for emergence of neuroplasticity;
- Review the concept of participation and its importance to meeting the needs of children and families;
ABOUT THE RESEARCHER:
Deborah Anderson, PT, EdD, PCS is the Associate Program Director and an Associate Professor in the Physical Therapy Program at Midwestern University. Dr. Anderson teaches in the pediatric curriculum within the DPT Program and conducts research in the areas of pediatric examination and intervention, development of professionalism, and teaching and learning. Dr. Anderson is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy with over 30 years of experience as a pediatric physical therapist.
