IPTA Western District Meeting

AGENDA: It’s PT Month—time to celebrate us!
1. Call to order
2. Presentation by Bradley PT students
a. Abby Allen, SPT & Brittany Mulderink, SPT presented their research on “outpatient therapists assessing patient vital signs during the initial PT evaluation”;
b. Matt ______, SPT presented his research on “parents knowledge and attitudes about concussions”.
3. Legislative updates (Jean)
a. Discussion regarding pending legislation in the IL General Assembly includes “Co-Pay Equity” and “Dry Needling by PTs”
b. Informed group that “Testimonials in PT Advertising” passed and is now legal in Illinois
c. Discussed IL PT Act sunset on Dec 31, 2015—what this means, what we need to do
d. Western District hosted meeting with US Representative Aaron Schock in Pekin in June, 2014 and discussed federal legislation including repeal of the therapy cap; announced that the therapy cap repeal legislation now has a majority of US Representatives as sponsors
e. Requested that everyone consider supporting the IL PT PAC and/or the APTA PAC with even a minimum contribution
4. IPTA Western District election results (Jean)
a. Reviewed District election results and thanked individuals that will be completing their terms in 2014.
b. Announced that the Western District secretary, Amanda Clementz, PT, has resigned (one year left on term) and that a new secretary will need to be appointed by the District Chairperson (per our Rules); asked that anyone interested please contact the District Chairperson
5. APTA House of Delegate, June 2014 (Jean)
a. Summary provided of APTA HOD actions on issues that were discussed at the May Western District meeting including RC 8-14, RC 9-14, RC 11-14, RC15-14, RC 16-14 and RC 17-14.
b. Further information on all APTA HOD actions can be found at apta.org
6. Upcoming events (Jean)
a. Announced all statewide events listed on summary from Chapter office
b. Announced Western District New Connections event on 10/15/14 from 6-730 pm at The Fieldhouse Bar & Grill, Peoria.
c. Discussed additional New Connections events that are in planning stages for Galesburg and Rock Island/Moline
7. Open discussion
a. Requested feedback from group on meeting days (M-Th) and general thought was to have the meeting on a different day each time as this should best accommodate most people
b. Requested ideas for inclusion in the IPTA budget – no suggestions received
c. Announced that District meetings for 2015 will be scheduled during the first two weeks of March, May and October and should be posted on IPTA website by the end of this year
d. Encouraged student members to submit nominations for the SSIG by 10/11/2014.
e. Announced 2015 IPTA Assembly, Conference and Student Conclave dates: 4/24-45/2015. Also call for poster presentations for same.
