Renewing Your License in Illinois

The State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation administers the issuance of licenses for professionals in the State of Illinois. 

For Physical Therapists, licenses expire on September 30th of each even year.

For Physical Therapist Assistants, licenses expire on September 30th of each odd year.

To renew an existing license you must go to the Illinois Department of Finance and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation website:

Upon arriving at the Renewal page you must choose to renew for a
Physical Therapist License Renewal or a Physical Therapist Assistant License Renewal by clicking the appropriate heading in the column at the right (circled).

Now you have arrived at the renewal screen where you will choose how you would like to renew your license.

1.)  You may choose to renew online by credit card payment.

2.)  You may choose to renew over the telephone with a credit card payment and PIN number. If you do not know your PIN, you may look on your renewal application to find it.  If you do not have a renewal application, you can print it.

3.)  You may print a renewal application form to locate your PIN or to renew by mail.
