Informed Consent:  What Does it Mean for PT Practice?
by
Patti Naylor, PT, MS

Informed Consent is a legal doctrine that has been developed by the courts over a number of years.  The doctrine of informed consent is based on a health care professional’s obligation to give a patient all relevant information about a proposed procedure or treatment prior to obtaining the consent of the patient to carry out the procedure or treatment.

In this course, you will learn about the historical basis of informed consent, to distinguish between “basic” consent and informed consent, the four elements of medical malpractice, the elements and functions of informed consent and much much more.
