Welcome from the IPTA President

Welcome to the official website of the Illinois Physical Therapy Association.  We are an organization of 3,000 physical therapists and physical therapist assistants committed to advancing the ethical and professional best practice of physical therapy in Illinois.  Our Chapter is one of 51 component chapters of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).  The APTA is a national professional organization representing more than 66,000 members. Its goal is to foster advancements in physical therapy practice, research, and education.

Whether you are a PT or PTA looking for professional information or you’re looking for information about the practice of physical therapy in Illinois, the IPTA is your link to invaluable information.  This new web design is for you the members we serve!  We hope you will enjoy the improved access to more in-depth information and resources than ever before.

Physical therapy is a profession on the move, responding like no other to the demands of a complex society which has an incredible array of new healthcare needs.  Physical therapy provides a key “missing link” within medicine: the connection between behavior, education, movement, exercise, function and human health.  This website is another tool in responding to these new demands and advancing our profession’s vision and mission.

If you are interested in physical therapy, whether you’re a current or future PT, PTA, or a current or potential patient/client of physical therapy services, we’d like to call your attention to the fact that the citizens of Illinois do not have the legal right to seek care directly from the physical therapist of their choice.  The IPTA invites you to join with us in urging your legislators to allow unrestricted direct access to physical therapists across the state.

We hope you’ll enjoy using our website.  Please visit often as we update it continuously to provide you with current information.
